Welcome to the home of TeaCup Cavaliers. TeaCup Cavaliers is a small kennel that was started to provide dogs of sound temperament, structure, and health for my dog showing hobby.
TeaCup, what exactly does that mean? When I first got into showing Cavaliers it was hinted that I needed to pick my own kennel name if I was ever going to breed. I contemplated this for several weeks going through ideas that I wanted the name to have something to do with England and the culture when I stumbled on the idea of their enjoyment of tea and tea time. So, the long and short of it was the name TeaCup. Now everyone that knows me knows that one of my many shortcomings is the ability to remember names and to think up names. So, in this enthusiasm of picking TeaCup I never associated the negative connotation of the word. It was once I started getting phone calls and emails asking for miniature (teacup) cavaliers that I realized the error of my ways.
So, now we have more thought process going on. Do I change the name? What would the new name be? I've already registered dogs with the TeaCup, what do I do about that? Well, I decided to take this blunder and make it an opportunity. The opportunity to educate people that purposely breeding outside of the breed standard is not what ethical breeders do. We are here to better the breed and not potentially add more health issues to our wonderful Cavaliers. That is not to say that I have not had a little boy stay around the 13-14 pound range even into adulthood even though his brother is teetering into 19 pounds.
